Composer

Alex Corlett is a Cardiff based composer currently studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Originally from London, Alex studied jazz guitar with the renowned Charles Alexander. This led to invitations to join several jazz groups, including a big band led by veteran arranger Tony Douglas, and performances at various venues around London, including St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square.

Alex also worked as a musical director for Winnie Greer, a former semi-finalist in the London International Jazz Competition. During this time Alex worked on various arrangements, and became increasingly interested in various forms of contemporary composition. His recent works include Exotic Neurotic for string quintet, Lip-Trip for bass-clarinet, vibraphone, bongos and strings, and several songs based on the poems of William Blake.

Alex’s popular wind quintet work Ninkasi was recently performed in front of an enthusiastic audience by the brilliant Danish group Ensemble Midtvest.
